Why this product exists

Cariance replaces fragmented advice — quizzes, articles, and occasional counseling — with one continuous product: assess who you are, see where you fit, explore real career worlds, build skills through quests, learn with purpose, and talk to an AI counselor that already knows your profile.

Cariance shows that Krenno can take a high-stakes human problem — what should I do with my career — and ship it as a complete consumer product: assessment design, generative AI pipelines, authenticated user journeys, and a multi-surface information architecture. It proves we can design for trust and personality while engineering a cross-platform Flutter system with Firebase Auth, structured LLM outputs, and a coherent design language. For the next client, this is evidence that we can build AI products that feel polished, personal, and commercially ready.

The story

Challenge, approach, solution

01

The Challenge

Career choice is one of the highest-stakes decisions people make, and the tools around it are usually thin. Personality quizzes dump a type code. Job boards dump listings. Counseling is expensive, infrequent, and hard to access at the moment someone is actually stuck. People are free to consider hundreds of fields, but they rarely get a dedicated path, a dedicated counselor, and a reason to keep going after the first insight. The product problem was to turn self-knowledge into an ongoing journey — assessment, recommendation, exploration, skill-building, learning, and conversation — without making the experience feel like homework.

02

Our Approach

We treated career guidance as a consumer product, not a form. The assessment is the onboarding: fifty-nine workplace-centered questions, completed before the home experience unlocks, so every later surface is personal. Generative AI is used where it earns its place — turning answers into traits, fields, jobs, and a full analysis, then powering Robobot with that same profile as memory. The rest of the product is a quest system: Explorer's Den for discovery, Future Forge for skill quests, the Learning Loft for courses and challenges, and Pathway Pioneers for mentors, events, and collaboration. Gamification (XP, levels, progress) gives the journey momentum. A dark, high-contrast visual system with Suisse Intl and a coral–lime–cyan palette makes the product feel designed, not institutional.

03

The Solution

Cariance is a live career companion on iOS, Android, and web. Users authenticate with email or Google, complete the assessment, and receive a structured AI profile they can open into career fields, specific jobs, and a detailed analysis. They then choose a quest: explore mapped career worlds, accept skill challenges such as brand design, continue learning paths, or work with virtual mentors. Robobot is available from the home and assessment flows as a named counselor that answers with the questionnaire as context. Roadmaps split the plan into short-term and long-term views. Rewards track XP across quests. The result is one product that covers assessment, recommendation, exploration, counseling, and progression.

Experience

The Experience

The session starts with a branded splash, then sign-in. New users are routed into the career assessment before they see the quest home, so the product never feels generic. Each question is a full-screen card with a stacked coral, lime, and cyan depth treatment; answers advance the progress bar until Gemini produces the profile. The analysis screen leads with two destinations — five career fields and fifteen specific jobs — then key traits and a full written analysis. From there, Start the Quest opens the home: a four-tile map of Explorer's Den, Future Forge, the Learning Loft, and Pathway Pioneers, with Robobot pinned in the corner. A floating bottom bar moves between home, rewards, roadmap, and profile. Exploration uses an interactive map with location pins. Skill quests can be accepted and submitted. Learning is organized as upskill, challenges, workshops, and trending courses. Mentorship offers personalized advice, progress reviews, and career guidance alongside events and project collaboration. At any point the user can open Robobot, start a chat, and get counsel that already knows how they answered the assessment.

Product

What we built into the product

AI Career Assessment

A fifty-nine-question workplace personality assessment covering decision style, social energy, planning, values, and work preference. Completing it is the gateway into the product, so every recommendation and conversation is grounded in the user's own answers.

Dedicated Personality Profile

Gemini produces a structured profile from the assessment: key traits, a full written analysis, five recommended career fields, and fifteen specific job titles. Results are parsed into product screens with fallbacks so the experience stays complete even when model output varies.

Career Fields and Role Matching

Users can move from a high-level field view into a concrete list of roles. Recommended fields persist per account and become the filter tags that personalize Explorer's Den, Future Forge, Learning Loft, and Pathway Pioneers.

Robobot Career Counselor

A named AI counselor available throughout the product. Robobot opens as a character-led welcome, then a live chat session. Every message is answered with the user's questionnaire as reference, so advice stays aligned with their path rather than generic career copy.

Explorer's Den

A discovery surface for people who want to look around before they commit. Career-field tags, an exploration map with location pins, and quest entries let users browse worlds that match their profile instead of scrolling a directory.

Future Forge Skill Quests

Hands-on quests that turn a recommended path into practice. Users accept challenges such as brand design, review clues and briefs, submit work, and earn XP. Progress cards keep unfinished journeys visible.

Learning Loft

A learning hub organized around the user's recommended fields: upskilling tracks, challenges, workshops, continue-journey cards, and trending courses so development stays attached to the career path, not a disconnected catalog.

Pathway Pioneers Mentorship

Virtual mentors for personalized advice, progress reviews, and career guidance, plus ongoing events and project collaboration. This is the counseling and community layer that sits alongside self-serve exploration.

Roadmap Planner

A dedicated planner that toggles between long-term and short-term career maps, giving users a visual plan they can hold next to daily quests and counselor conversations.

Secure Account Access

Email and password registration, Google Sign-In on mobile and web, validated forms, and session-aware routing. Assessment progress and recommendations are stored per user so returning to the product resumes the same path.

Also included

XP, Levels, and Rewards

Players earn XP by completing quests, challenges, and networking events. Levels unlock new opportunities, and the rewards surface shows progress across each quest world so momentum is visible.

Profile and Account Controls

A personal hub for favorites, sharing, settings, help, and sign-out, with level identity carried through from the rewards system.

Engineering

How it's built

Cariance is a client-centric Flutter architecture with a clear session gate. On launch, Firebase initializes, the authentication repository emits the current user, and AppBloc maps that into authenticated or unauthenticated status. Flow Builder then presents either the login splash or the home splash. Authenticated users are checked against a per-account assessment flag: if the questionnaire is incomplete, the assessment is the only path forward; if it is complete, the floating-tab shell opens onto Home, Rewards, Roadmap, and Profile. Assessment answers are sent to Gemini through a chat session with an explicit output contract. The product parses key traits, career-field arrays, job arrays, and long-form analysis, stores fields and raw responses locally against the user's email, and uses those fields as the personalization tags across quest surfaces. Robobot opens a separate Gemini session and injects the stored questionnaire into every counselor turn. UI is composed from a dark design system — Suisse Intl, coral, lime, cyan, and near-black surfaces — with ScreenUtil locking layout to the mobile design size.

Decision

Make the assessment a hard gate before the quest home.

A career product that lets users wander before they are known will feel generic. Personalization has to be earned on the first session.

Every later surface — tags, counselor, quests — can assume a real profile exists.

Decision

Use Gemini with explicit output contracts and parsed product screens, not a single blob of text.

Traits, fields, jobs, and analysis are different objects in the information architecture. The model must feed the product, not replace it.

AI results become navigable destinations, and fallbacks keep the journey intact if a parse fails.

Decision

Inject the stored questionnaire into Robobot rather than starting a blank chat.

Counseling only has value if it continues the same path the assessment started.

Users get dedicated advice without restating themselves, which is the product's core promise.

Stack

Cariance is a Flutter application with a BLoC-driven auth shell, a repository layer for Firebase Authentication, and a generative-AI session layer on Google Gemini. The stack is chosen so one codebase can deliver a designed consumer experience on iOS, Android, and web while keeping assessment results, chat context, and session state coherent for each signed-in user. Domain packages for authentication, form validation, and cache keep product logic testable and separate from UI.

Process

From brief to shipped product

  1. 01Discovery

The work started from a real user problem: people can consider many careers, but they rarely receive a dedicated path and dedicated counseling in one place. We mapped the journey from first confusion to a plan — assess, interpret, explore, practice, learn, and talk to a counselor — and treated each as a product surface rather than a page in a report.

  2. 02Design

The visual system is dark, high-contrast, and game-informed: stacked colored cards, large Suisse Intl headlines, coral, lime, and cyan worlds, and a circular floating tab bar. Assessment, analysis, quests, maps, and chat were designed as one language so the AI results would feel native to the product rather than pasted in.

  3. 03Development

Engineering was organized around a session-first Flutter architecture: Firebase Auth and Google Sign-In in a repository, BLoC for app status, an assessment-to-Gemini pipeline with structured parsing, per-user local personalization, and four quest modules plus Robobot, roadmap, and rewards. Cross-platform delivery was maintained from the same codebase.

  4. 04Testing

Authentication failures are mapped from platform codes into product messages. Formz models validate identity inputs before submit. AI responses are parsed defensively with fallback trait, field, job, and analysis sets so a malformed model reply never blocks the journey. Widget tests sit alongside the Flutter project and package test suites for auth and cache.

  5. 05Launch

The product ships as Cariance with branded splash and launcher icons, Android application identity, Firebase project configuration for Android and web, and a portrait-first experience ready to present as a live career companion.

Challenges

Hard problems, clear outcomes

Turning generative text into a navigable career product

Problem

A language model will happily write a paragraph. Cariance needed objects the rest of the product could use: a trait list, five fields, fifteen jobs, and a long-form analysis that could open as its own screen.

Approach

We wrote prompt contracts that demand named sections and array-shaped lists, then built parsers and fallbacks so each result type becomes a destination. Recommended fields are stored on the account and reused as tags across quests.

Outcome

AI output is a structured profile that drives exploration, learning, mentorship, and counseling — not a one-off report the user reads and leaves.

Counseling that remembers the person

Problem

A generic chatbot next to a career quiz is two products. Users would have to repeat themselves, and advice would drift off their path.

Approach

Robobot is a named counselor with a dedicated chat session. Each turn injects the stored questionnaire and instructions to keep career answers aligned with that profile.

Outcome

The assessment and the counselor share one memory, which is what makes the counseling feel dedicated rather than interchangeable.

Personalization without a heavy backend on day one

Problem

The home worlds, counselor, and returning-user gate all need the same profile, bound to an account, immediately after launch.

Approach

Firebase Auth identifies the person. A per-email local store holds assessment completion, raw answers, and recommended fields. HomePageCheck uses that flag to route between questionnaire and quests.

Outcome

The product behaves as a personal companion on return visits while remaining architecturally ready for a richer cloud profile later.

Making career work feel like a journey people continue

Problem

Traditional guidance is a form and a PDF. People abandon it after the result. Cariance had to hold attention across exploration, practice, learning, and mentorship.

Approach

We designed four named quest worlds, XP and levels, accept-and-submit skill quests, an interactive exploration map, and short- versus long-term roadmaps, all in a distinctive dark visual system.

Outcome

Career guidance becomes a product with progression — the commercial shape universities, coaches, and consumer apps actually need.

Proof

What this work proves

Cariance concentrates a fragmented career journey into one authenticated product. A user can move from personality assessment to a dedicated field-and-role profile, then into exploration, skill quests, learning, mentorship, roadmaps, and an AI counselor that already knows them. The work demonstrates Krenno's ability to design a distinctive consumer brand and to engineer the systems underneath it: cross-platform Flutter, Firebase identity, structured generative AI, and a multi-surface information architecture. For a client, the value is a finished pattern for AI-guided products that have to feel personal and still stand as serious software.
